Rescue Me ID: 16-10-18-00394Charles Tappy (male)

Shih Tzu    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 04/11/2016 Reason for being in rescue: owner release/can't care for Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Charles has dry eye syndrome but he hates hates hates eye drops. About 30 days ago, we changed CT to oral cyclosporine. It's doing very well. Charles is on 25 mg cyclosporin oral once - every other day. Here is a link to a 800petmeds on the drugs he needs. $47.77 for 30 capsules or about $25 per month http://www.1800petmeds.com/Cyclosporine+(Modified)+Generic+To+Atopica-prod10466.html Weight: est 11 lbs Height: est 11 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $ 229 Fence needed? no ... (Read More)What kind of home would be best for me? Charles would thrive best in a relaxed and calm home without a lot of activity. Charles Tappy gets along well with pretty much everyone except cats so its best that he go to a home with no cats. What is my personality like? Charles Tappy is very laid back and easy going. He has more of a catlike personality rather than that of a dog. He enjoys some petting, but isn't overly demanding for it. Charles does like to have his back scratched and arches his rear up just like a cat! Charles isn't very active and while he does get along well with other dogs, he doesn't play or interact with them. He spends most of his days napping in his dog bed or in his crate. He would love to spend his days snuggled up beside you on the couch! Charles does have one pet peeve-- he doesn't like anyone to mess with his ears or his eyes. He is ok with everyday petting on his head, just as long as they aren't touching or pulling on his ears. He especially hates grooming around his eyes, and it is best to keep the hair around his eyes short because of the dry eye. Putting in his eye drops is a two person job most of the time. We're seeing, as his eyes get better and feel better with regular medication, this is getting easier and easier. UPDATE9/16/2016: Charles tappy is still his laid back, independent self. He likes attention but he doesn't absolutely have to have it. He's the perfect dog for anyone looking for a cuddle companion as well as someone to be lazy with. How I act when I first meet new people: Charles Tappy is more of a wallflower than a social butterfly, but he is nice to new people. In his own home and now that his eyes don't hurt as much, we think he'll be much more open. My age: Est birthdate 4/2/2011 Please note - we do not ship dogs. Bullmastiff    Age: Puppy

Date into Rescue: 05/10/2016 Reason for being in rescue: turned in to a local shelter by owner - reason stated was that Mia was originally a gift but she grew larger than the owner expected her to Foster location: Misty in Union SC Special Needs? none known Weight: about 55 lbs -she is in good weight but is young, adult weight will probably be 65 to 70 lbs at full grown Height: about 26' at shoulder - will most likely grow at least one more inch Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Much preferred but to the right home will consider no fence home What kind of home would be best for me? Mia is an affectionate, happy dog who epitomizes ... (Read More)the absolute best of the bull mastiff breed. She was originally owner release / can't care for and one of our caregivers took her home for several months while we worked to resolve her cherry eye .She loved Mia but realized that she is far too big and needs much more attention than she could give so tearfully asked us to find Mia a home. What is my personality like? Bouncy, sweet, loves to play. Hasn't met a squeeky toy she did not like. She can be a bit rough on toys, too. She has no one here that is really her size or energy level to play with but her limited interaction has been okay. Medical note: Mia has cherry eye (a tear duct that protrudes) in both eyes. In September, our vet attempted reduction by tucking but the tucking did not stay in. Because removing cherry eye often creates dry eye later in life, we've opted not to do additional surgery at this time. How I act when I first meet new people: Sweetheart - she loves people. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00421Oscar (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 2/28/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes, see description Weight: Est 43lb Height: Est 17' at the shoulder What is my personality like? Strong willed, goofy, intelligent, energetic Who I am seeking: Oscar needs someone who is very experienced with head-strong dogs. He must have a strong 'pack leader,' otherwise he will run over you. He needs an adult only home. Oscar can be a very, very sweet dog. He likes to show affection and to get attention - when he wants it. He has bitten and broken the skin on one occasion since his time here with us. What we have ... (Read More)found is that he does best with people that he knows and trust, versus complete strangers. Oscar needs a strong leader who can teach him some manners and work with him. He loves to play and run out in the field. Oscar has a lot of energy and needs someone who is able to exercise him. He shows signs of resource guarding - he will act ugly in his crate sometimes and over treats. We definitely think his behavior could be modified with some training. At this time we believe he would thrive best in a home where he is the only pet. He has not made many canine friends in his time here - mainly due to his dominant personality. With some time and patience, Oscar could be an excellent dog. He needs an adult only home. Oscar was heartworm positive when we got him. He has finished full treatment and is ready for a home. Update 3/31/2016 Oscar needs lots of patience for the right home. He does not like new people but once he warms up to you he's as sweet as can be! He loves to run and give kisses. He will jump fences..so he definaltey could use some training. If anyone is interested in this goofy boy they should come spend one on one time at the farm with him until Oscar is comfortable with the new person. Age: We are estimating him at 5 but honestly the longer he's with us the younger he acts. Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: VERY weary about new people. He will bark and growl in his run until he gets to know you. Please note - we do not ship dogs. What kind of home would be best for me? Toby would love to find a home out in the country or on a farm with an adopter that will take him hunting, fishing or hiking! Toby is an exemplary representation of his breed in that his nose is his guide and not even a six foot fence is going to stand in his way! Toby is a very well ... (Read More)behaved dog that gets along well with everyone he meets both human and canine! What is my personality like? Toby is a laid back, sweet, even tempered, all around great guy. He has a very mellow and gentle personality. Unfortunately because he is an fence jumper and escape artist we have to leash walk Toby when outside, but now he is house trained and for the most part walks great on a leash! He does pull on a leash sometimes when he gets really excited and when he is in a new place. A few of our caregivers took Toby to a Tails and Trails event, which is a trail walk where volunteers walk some of our dogs on a two mile hike, and Toby had a blast! He loves to go out on walks to explore and smell new scents. He would do exceedingly well with someone who loves to hike and be outside. Toby would do great with children considering his calm, gentle nature. He is pretty independent.. he doesn't need anyone to baby talk him or have affection. Although he does love an occasional back scratch, and to be petted! How I act when I first meet new people: Toby is friendly to all he meets. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. (Read More)He is bonded to one of our caregivers and she can do anything she wants with him. Wally prefers to have all the love and attention all to himself and would do best in a home as the only dog. What is my personality like? In the beginning, Wally was a little difficult and headstrong, but now he that he is comfortable and used to the routine he is much more agreeable and obedient. He knows the wait command but if you don't make him do it he will try to sneak on in the door. Wally doesn't like being outside and prefers to just go out to use the potty and come right back in.     Date into Rescue: 09/06/2013 Reason for being in rescue: found as a stray in Union County Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 30 lb Height: Medium Fence needed? no Adoption Fee: $200 Special Needs? Keegan needs to be fed a grain free diet to help maintain his healthy, shiny coat. He came to CPR with chronic ear infections and heartworms and both have been resolved. What kind of home would be best for me? Someone who will work on building Keegan's trust and confidence so he can become the amazing dog he was meant to be. Ideally someone who is home more often than not so that Keegan can get lots of love and ... (Read More)attention. He gets along well with other dogs and currently lives with several in his foster home. What is my personality like? Keegan can be very shy at first and may take some time to settle into his new environment. But his forever home will be rewarded with a wonderful dog and shining personality. Keegan has been in a foster home for a few months now and has been coming out of his shell. He has gone from a very timid dog to part of his foster family's pack and even looks forward to leash walks every day! How I act when I first meet new people: Shy and takes time to warm up, but he has a lot of love to give to those he opens up to House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: est. birthday 09/06/2011 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-01-00336Alfie (male)

Chinese Crested Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 10/14/15 Reason for being in rescue: seizure due to his condition Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Alfie has food allergies. He can only eat rabbit kibble. Weight: est 18 lbs Height: est 12' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200.00 Fence needed 'No but he would enjoy a fenced in yard or some place to go play off leash a couple of times a week What kind of home would be best for me? Alfie came to CPR with hardly any hair and sarcoptic mange. After months of treatment, he was still having issues with his skin so off to vet he went. The vet's office staff decided they liked having ... (Read More)Alfie around so much that they are fostering him until he gets adopted. On top of the mange, Alfie also has food allergies, and is now only able to eat rabbit based kibble. We are unsure of Alfie's true breeds. The breeds we listed are our best guess based on his looks and behavior. Alfie has grown a lot of his hair back, but we don't know if he is partly Chinese crested or if his skin is just so badly damaged that his hair just won't grow back in certain spots. Alfie has shown some resource guarding and would thrive best with an experienced patient adopter that can work with him on this issue. He guards his toys, bed, and his home. He would do best in a home with few visitors and no children. What is my personality like? Alfie is one smart boy! He knows how to sit and twirl, and he is a fairly quick study, especially when treats are involved. Alfie absolutely loves to play with toys, but he has shown some resource guarding with his toys so he needs to have some rules and structure when it comes to playtime. Alfie is determined, intelligent, independent, and loving. How I act when I first meet new people: Alfie is finicky with new people. He likes some new people and others he does not like. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-06-00719Opie - HW+ (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 12/31/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Opie tested positive for heartworms. He has just completed his heartworm treatment using the fast kill method which consists of three immiticide injections and four to six weeks of crate rest. Opie will be retested for heartworms six months after completion of treatment. Opie will need to be on a monthly ivermectin based heartworm preventative for the rest of his life. We encourage all potential adopters to research heartworms and treatment protocols to gain a better understanding of heartworms and ... (Read More)why a monthly preventative is so important! Weight: est 45 lbs Height: est 22' Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed: no, but he would love one! Opie is a goofy hound mix with a loving and playful disposition. He loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to go outside and play with his many canine companions. Opie and his other hound friends love to engage in rough play and Opie likes to growl a lot when he plays, but it is all in good fun! Opie knows how to sit, and is also crate trained and runs right in his crate. Opie loves people and always greets them cheerfully. Opie came to CPR severely underweight, dehydrated, and a victim of neglect and abuse. We put him on a strict diet to gain weight and prevent refeeding syndrome and slowly nursed Opie back to a healthy weight. Despite his condition, Opie was (and still is), very loving and upbeat, wanting to play with his tennis ball while out on potty breaks. Opie does resource guard his food, but considering his past of not knowing when his next meal would come it's not surprising that he would be protective of his food. The perfect home for Opie would be an experienced adopter that will continue to work and train with him through his resource guarding issues. Opie would love an active owner to go for daily walks, hikes or jogs. He would do well in a home with another large dog to play with or as an only dog! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Weight: Height: Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Winter would love to find a permanent home with a nice quiet family where she can live out the rest of her life peacefully and comfortably. What is my personality like? Winter marches to the beat of her own drum, and she is a ... (Read More)quirky independent dog. She is much more of a 'lone wolf' than a member of the pack. She is surprisingly active for her age and likes to walk freely around the kennel rather than sleep the day away in a crate. She also enjoys sitting outside in the fresh air on nice sunny days. Winter gets along well with other dogs but prefers the company of older mature dogs. She can get a little ornery with overly energetic pups, and growls at them if they bump into her or get too close to her back. Due to Winter's back issues, she is more sensitive to the touch and appreciates gentler handling and petting. How I act when I first meet new people: aloof; slightly curious House trained?     Meet Jasmine (aka Smarty Pants)! Breed: Australian Blue Heeler Gender: Female Adoption Fee: $200 Date into Rescue: 12/22/15 Reason for being in rescue: Found as a stray Foster location: Harriet in Greenville, SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 30 lbs Height: Est 15' Fence Needed: Yes, absolutely What is my personality like? Jasmine is a young dog who needs a strong leader and an experienced blue heeler owner. She is a pure bred heeler and needs a job! Jasmine is high energy, true to her breed, and loves to catch sticks, tennis balls, or her favorite - a Frisbee. She knows how to fetch, and will bring whatever you throw for her ... (Read More)back to you. Jasmine absolutely loves playing with toys. S he knows how to walk on a leash but really needs a harness. She really enjoys going for walks and see what is going on in the world. She has done great just walking along side her foster's side. Jasmine is such a smart girl. Her foster uses a whistle or clicker and rewards with a treat - Jasmine has responded very well to this positive training and learns her commands very quickly. She came to us with some basic obedience skills such as Sit, Crate, and Come and has been working on more like Leave It. She is fully crate trained and will go right into her crate when you say 'Crate'. She is still working on some typical puppy behaviors, but has come a long way working on those with her foster. For example, Jasmine used to have a bad habit of 'nipping.' This was not in any way out of aggression but rather excitement and her herding instinct. She has now overcome this while in the care of her foster mom! Jasmine is also a very affectionate girl. She likes to be petted and have her ears rubbed and tickled. She is a good dog! She and her foster dog sister play and play and play!! Her adopter will have to have time for her, patience, and a fenced yard. If given the chance, she can jump - but not six feet. In short she needs active owners - ideally someone who likes to hike, do agility and other activities. She will be a great dog in the right setting. Her foster home also has 4 cats which Jasmine has learned to tolerate. Who I am seeking: An experienced dog owner, preferably with this particular breed. Someone who is home more than they're not. How I act when I first meet new people: Friendly House trained? Still working on house training. The foster is utilizing Jasmine's crate training and working on getting her house trained in one room. She strongly believes that Jasmine will catch on to house training with a solid routine and regular mental and physical exercise. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Age: est birth date 12/2013 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. Brussels Griffon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 04/27/2015 Reason for being in rescue: We rescued Whiskers from our local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 8 lbs Height: Est 11' Adoption Fee: $125 What's my story? It's quite a story. On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police. No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth. It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right? Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon. That's a far ... (Read More)piece from South Carolina. Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large. This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from. The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored. After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here. What is my personality like? Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past. He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch. On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size. Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone. Age: est birthday 04/19/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - behavior Weight: Est 100 lbs Height: Est 30' at the shoulder Age: We think Stella was born around May of 2010 What can I say about a big spotty girl with lot and lots of attitude. (Read More)if Stella knows you and you're a firm and experienced handler, she's your best friend. If not, watch out. Stella has many good qualities and is a fun dog to be around if she has accepted you. She is stunningly good looking, a large girl with a large heart for those she loves and trusts. Stella loves toys and she can be found collecting so she can keep them tidy and neat. She's a hoarder but not really for any caregiver can walk in at any time and help themselves to her toy collection and she's happy to share. Leave it laying on the kennel floor and she'll fetch it and put it back where it belongs, in her run. She's a very neat girl. Stella loves big, fluffy beds but she also has been known to get so excited she eats the darn thing. We go through beds with her. Right now, Stella is sleeping on a big Kuranda bed with a fluffy comforter recycled from Goodwill. That seems to be working for her. Stella loves to play with other dogs and she'll romp and play just like a standard poodle and she can run and jump, wrestle and roll with the best of them. Stella has never met a dog she didn't like and she especially seems to like poodles and doodles. It's people that drive her a bit crazy and we don't know why. We've had her checked from top to toe and no physical issues. She eats grain free food to keep her skin fresh and healthy but other than that, she is as healthy now as she can possibly be. Eye sight was suspected but it's just fine. So is her hearing. But there is something about certain people that sets her off and when that happens, Stella uses her teeth. We've only seen one incident of aggression out of Stella here that was short and did not result in any damage. All the caregivers love her. We placed her once and she came back with a history of biting and biting hard. When that happens we stop, we observe and we try to figure out what happened for there is always a trigger, you just need to figure out what it is. So far it seems to be somewhat resource guarding. For the rest, I don't know. Stella is adoptable to the person with a ton of experience and a firm grasp of doggie discipline. They must understand that if they give this girl direction and focus, she will give them back a devotion that will be unlike any they have ever seen. If not - then trouble will happen. If interested in adopting Stella, you must have a fenced in yard prefer 6' privacy and one other large dog. No children under 18 years old. No cats. (Less)
