Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00425Dewey (male)

Chihuahua    Age: Young Puppy

Date into Rescue: 8/30/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender/couldn't care for. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none Weight: est 5 lbs Height: est Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Dewey is all puppy and looking for an adopter ready to take the responsibilities of having a puppy. Dewey came in with Dozer, another Chihuahua mix, and we would love to find a home for the both of them or a home with another small young dog for a playmate, but its not a deal breaker. What is my personality like? Dewey is estimated to be about four months old so he has ... (Read More)typical puppy personality! He wants to get into anything and everything! He wants to play, play play and especially enjoys wrestling with brother Dozer! He also enjoys cuddle time and loves to give kisses. Dewey seems to be already familiar with a crate and is doing really well with his crate training. When he gets tired he goes right in and lays in his crate. How I act when I first meet new people: Dewey greets everyone with a tail wag and a kiss! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated to be around 4 months old. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Eugene is friendly dog that would do well in just about any type of home. He never meets a stranger and loves to be around people. Eugene gets along well with dogs too and would be a great companion for another dog or could go home as the only pet. What is my personality like? Eugene is a sweet, personable dog that loves everyone. He ... (Read More)absolutely loves to be out and about with people and does not like to be locked up in a crate. We are working on his crate training, but he would much rather be out in the middle of the action. Eugene is also an adept escape artist. He is pretty smart in that he has figured out how to open the gate and squeeze himself through the bottom of it. He would just rather be with his person than outside by himself. Eugene is very eager to please and would be a great dog for just about anyone wanting companionship. How I act when I first meet new people: Eugene loves meeting new people. House trained? Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00421Oscar (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 2/28/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes, see description Weight: Est 43lb Height: Est 17' at the shoulder What is my personality like? Strong willed, goofy, intelligent, energetic Who I am seeking: Oscar needs someone who is very experienced with head-strong dogs. He must have a strong 'pack leader,' otherwise he will run over you. He needs an adult only home. Oscar can be a very, very sweet dog. He likes to show affection and to get attention - when he wants it. He has bitten and broken the skin on one occasion since his time here with us. What we have ... (Read More)found is that he does best with people that he knows and trust, versus complete strangers. Oscar needs a strong leader who can teach him some manners and work with him. He loves to play and run out in the field. Oscar has a lot of energy and needs someone who is able to exercise him. He shows signs of resource guarding - he will act ugly in his crate sometimes and over treats. We definitely think his behavior could be modified with some training. At this time we believe he would thrive best in a home where he is the only pet. He has not made many canine friends in his time here - mainly due to his dominant personality. With some time and patience, Oscar could be an excellent dog. He needs an adult only home. Oscar was heartworm positive when we got him. He has finished full treatment and is ready for a home. Update 3/31/2016 Oscar needs lots of patience for the right home. He does not like new people but once he warms up to you he's as sweet as can be! He loves to run and give kisses. He will jump fences..so he definaltey could use some training. If anyone is interested in this goofy boy they should come spend one on one time at the farm with him until Oscar is comfortable with the new person. Age: We are estimating him at 5 but honestly the longer he's with us the younger he acts. Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: VERY weary about new people. He will bark and growl in his run until he gets to know you. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Weight: Height: Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? Yes, but only because she loves to be outside. What kind of home would be best for me? She is easy-going, possibly a home that can provide her with lots of outside time. What is my personality like? Reese is a happy-go-lucky gal. She looks forward to long walks outside where she can sniff around and discover different places. She gets along fine with other dogs so far. She rarely ever barks and prefers to be friendly to everyone she ... (Read More)meets. Reese is sweet and friendly however, she is really calm and level headed. She doesn't care for treats or toys but likes affection! She can also be independent and do her own thing, without having to be shown attention 24/7. When she has to go potty she will go to the door and do a little dance for you, as soon as she is outside she potties. She was a owner surrender for no fault of her own. Treeing Walker Coonhound    Age: Puppy

Date into Rescue: 1-26-16 Reason for being in rescue: Stray Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Toby has tested positive for heart worms. We have opted to treat him using the slow kill method and when adopted Toby will be sent home with a year's supply of heart worm preventative. Weight: est 45 lbs Height: est 21' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $ Fence needed? no, Toby is a fence climber! What kind of home would be best for me? Toby would love to find a home out in the country or on a farm with an adopter that will take him hunting, fishing or hiking! Toby is an exemplary representation of his ... (Read More)breed in that his nose is his guide and not even a six foot fence is going to stand in his way! Toby is a very well behaved dog that gets along well with everyone he meets both human and canine! What is my personality like? Toby is a laid back, sweet, even tempered, all around great guy. He has a very mellow and gentle personality. Unfortunately because he is an fence jumper and escape artist we have to leash walk Toby when outside, but now he is house trained and for the most part walks great on a leash! He does pull on a leash sometimes when he gets really excited and when he is in a new place. A few of our caregivers took Toby to a Tails and Trails event, which is a trail walk where volunteers walk some of our dogs on a two mile hike, and Toby had a blast! He loves to go out on walks to explore and smell new scents. How I act when I first meet new people: Toby is friendly to all he meets. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Wally is the type of dog that you have to show him you are in charge and that you aren't going to put up with any shenanigans. Once you have earned his respect as pack leader he is the most loyal and lovable companion you could ask for. He is bonded to one of our caregivers and she can do anything she wants with him. Wally is very eager to please and responds well to verbal correction. He already knows how to sit and is learning how to wait at thresholds (doors, gates, etc). He knows the wait command but if you don't make him do it he will try to sneak on in the door. Wally doesn't like being outside and prefers to just go out to use the potty and come right back in. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-30-00155Moe (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 3/2/16 Reason for being in rescue: owner releaed Moe and Pia to a shelter after her husband died, she did not feel she could care for the boys Foster location: Suzi in Charlotte NC Special Needs? none known Weight: est 14 pounds Height: about 12' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $269 Fence needed? no 8/25/16 UPDATE: Moe was adopted in May, but is back with CPR and available for adoption. His adopter reported that after about 3 weeks in his home, Moe began having some resource guarding issues. Moe was growling and snapping at his CPR brother and didn't want to share his mom & dad. Moe is now in a foster home with 2 ... (Read More)other dogs and has not yet exhibited any of this behavior. He is sweet and snuggly, but is still getting to know his foster mom and settling in. As he gets more confident, he may become more territorial and need correction. For this reason, he would do best in a home with a confident adopter who will not be scared to redirect him when he is naughty. It may be determined at a later time that Moe needs to be an only-dog. For now, though, he is doing great with his foster brothers! He enjoys snuggle-time on the couch and having his belly rubbed. He really likes going for walks and when he sees his leash, he sits back on his hind legs and waves his paws in the air with excitement. He is a funny little boy! What kind of home would be best for me? Moe needs an owner that is experienced with the chihuahua breed and personality. Moe is looking for a stable, quiet home with few visitors and no children as he does not adapt well to change and frightens easily. He gets along well with other dogs especially his fellow shih/chi friends Molly, Opea, and Pi. What is my personality like? Moe takes a little time to warm up to new people and new situations, however once he is comfortable around you he is quite the funny guy. At first he avoided being touched or held, but now he likes to be petted and is okay with being picked up. When Moe gets excited, he sits back and pumps his forelegs like he is doing a happy dance. Moe loves to prance around the kennel with his friends, and would love to have a companion to play with and pass the time when left alone. Moe is very observant and always notifies you when he hears a strange noise. Moe is crate trained, and often shares his crate with one of his buddies. How I act when I first meet new people: Moe is timid and wary of new people, and it takes him time to be comfortable with them. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: 2 years old Please note - we do not ship dogs. On top of the mange, Alfie also has food allergies, and is now only able to eat rabbit based kibble. We are unsure of Alfie's true breeds. The breeds we listed are our best guess based on his looks and behavior. Alfie has grown a lot of his hair back, but we don't know if he is partly Chinese crested or if his skin is just so badly damaged that his hair just won't grow back in certain spots. Alfie has shown some resource guarding and would thrive best with an experienced patient adopter that can work with him on this issue. He guards his toys, bed, and his home. He would do best in a home with few visitors and no children. What is my personality like? Alfie is one smart boy! Rescue Me ID: 16-07-19-00282Amelia (female)

Chihuahua    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 3/7/2016 Reason for being in rescue: owner surrender, hoarder Foster location: close to Waxhaw, NC Special Needs? no Weight: 10.2 Height: 8 inches at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? no but Amelia does need exercise What kind of home would be best for me? I lived in a hoarder home, so a home that will understand I need time to learn to be a pet. A quiet home without a lot of children. I would love to go on walks and to sit with someone. I really want to be a companion. What is my personality like? Once Amelia gets to know you, she will be a shadow to you. Amelia is still ... (Read More)learning to be held and loved. Amelia is truly coming from rags to riches! In March, 2016 when Donna received the call about dogs who needed rescue from a hoarder situation, the Carolina Poodle Rescue van was loaded with empty crates and supplies .....ready to help in any way that was needed. One of the many dogs that came to Carolina Poodle Rescue from those horrible living conditions was our Amelia. As Amelia was receiving care, the vet confirmed that Amelia was expecting. Amelia gave birth to the cutest little male puppy on 3/25 and gave her little puppy excellent care. But that was the last puppy for Amelia! She is now on her way to learning to be a pet!! Amelia has now been spayed, had a dental and all her vaccinations are updated! Unusual for pets from a hoarder, Amelia was overweight and she has been working HARD to get into shape! Amelia is fidgety when you first pick her up and she makes the sweetest little grunting noises. However, if you give her time and speak quietly with her, she calms down and loves to be petted. She is learning to be cuddled. After being spayed, Amelia rested in bed with her foster mom and Amelia loved it. She would snuggle under the covers and curl into the cutest little ball. During those times Amelia made it very clear to the other dogs, she did not want to share the attention%BD'%BD|this is something Amelia's new owners will have to watch. Amelia is also very agile and can quickly jump into a chair and then to nearby tables. Amelia has never lived in a home, so she will beg for you to share your food and be very persistent. If there is a chair pulled out from the table where you are eating, little Amelia will not hesitate to try to get to your plate on the table. Amelia continues to be very food motivated and her new owners will have to watch her diet. Amelia is doing excellent on her housetraining and uses potty pads while her foster mom is at work. And Amelia loves her soft beds with fleece blankets. It is obvious she would learn to love cuddling on the couch. Amelia does not seem to be fond of the bigger dogs in her foster home (german shepherds) but she tolerates them. Amelia does love to go on walks with her foster mom around the fenced yard and to be outside and lay in the sun. We are still working on walking on a leash but Amelia is small, so she would probably prefer to be carried. How I act when I first meet new people: Very timid, I usually want to leave the room and hide. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. He loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to go outside and play with his many canine companions. Opie and his other hound friends love to engage in rough play and Opie likes to growl a lot when he plays, but it is all in good fun! Opie knows how to sit, and is also crate trained and runs right in his crate. Opie loves people and always greets them cheerfully. Opie came to CPR severely underweight, dehydrated, and a victim of neglect and abuse. We put him on a strict diet to gain weight and prevent refeeding syndrome and slowly nursed Opie back to a healthy weight. Despite his condition, Opie was (and still is), very loving and upbeat, wanting to play with his tennis ball while out on potty breaks. Opie does resource guard his food, but considering his past of not knowing when his next meal would come it's not surprising that he would be protective of his food. The perfect home for Opie would be an experienced adopter that will continue to work and train with him through his resource guarding issues. Opie would love an active owner to go for daily walks, hikes or jogs. He would do well in a home with another large dog to play with or as an only dog! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Under 1 year, estimated birthdate 2/19/2015 ~~Thank you for considering adding a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. You need to be prepared for that work. Because our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious where we put puppies. Our ideal puppy adopters are: *experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets *be scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day *and for those gone 4 hours per day have another canine companion in the home *be stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) If you fit this criteria, please apply for this puppy. If you do not fit this criteria, we strongly encourage you to look at our adoptable adult dogs. The number one misconception that we hear routinely from new dog owners is that they want a puppy because they do not think they can handle correcting past bad behaviors or resolving baggage. Not every adoptable rescue dog carries such baggage. Many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who have lost their families through no fault of their own. The second misconception we hear is that adult dogs can not bond with a new family. This again is not a true statement. Adult dogs are ready and eager to give you their love. In return, you get a family pet that is a known quantity, known size and shape and color and ready to start on the new adventure, their life with you. Lastly, training a puppy correctly is a tremendous commitment of time and energy. This is why we ask the puppy seeker have more time at home than the average working family. Puppies are gregarious and social creatures who crave attention and positive direction. You need the extra time to do it right.~~ Please note - we do not ship dogs. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: 4 years Please note - we do not ship dogs. Quiet female only home with NO kids and a fenced in yard. What is my personality like? Once Terrence opens up to you, he is hands down one of the sweetest, most affectionate guys you will ever meet. He has really bonded with one of our caregivers and shows her so much love all the time. When she ... (Read More)leaves, he cries. He is ready to bond with someone and have a place to call home. When he first came to us, he was absolutely terrified. We could not touch him, catch him or do anything with him. He would shake and tremble and growl at us. Boy, has he come a long long way!! Terrence is wonderfully crate trained, and will go in his crate on command. He is not house trained yet, but we are working on it. If he starts to hike his leg, he immediately responds to a loud 'aaaaank' noise and will go outside. He gets along great with other dogs of all sizes, and cats. Terrence is extremely loyal if you give him time. He is super weary of men and we feel he would do best without men in his life. He has still not warmed up to our male caregivers - perhaps this is indicative of a bad past with men. How I act when I first meet new people: Very shy at first House trained? No Weight: Est 30 lbs Height: Est 15' Fence Needed: Yes Smarty (Jasmine) is a good dog. She and Raven do play and play and play!! She will chase her toys and bring them back so we can throw them again. She has potential. I just signed up for training classes. BUT we have not given her the attention she needs so anyone who wants her will have to have time for her, patience , fenced yard(6foot). She can ... (Read More)jump but not six feet. In short she needs owners who like to hike, do agility and other activities. We are retired so we are with her most of the day. She knows how to walk on a leash but really needs a harness. We were thinking of erecting a ramp and or a maze of straw bales to let her run through. She is about two years old. She was found as a stray in Bryson City. What is my personality like? Jasmine is a young dog who needs a strong leader and an experienced blue heeler owner. S he knows how to walk on a leash but really needs a harness. Jasmine is high energy, true to her breed, and loves to catch sticks and tennis balls. She knows how to fetch, and will bring whatever you throw for her back to you. She has some basic obedience skills such as Sit, Crate and Come; she is now working on 'leave it.' Jasmine is a pure bred heeler and needs a job! Jasmine is a good dog. She and her foster dog sister play and play and play!! She will chase her toys and bring them back so we can throw them again. She has potential. Her foster has just signed her up for training classes. Her adopter will have to have time for her, patience, and a fenced yard. If given the chance, she can jump - but not six feet. In short she needs active owners - ideally someone who likes to hike, do agility and other activities. Her foster home also has 4 cats which Jasmine is learning to tolerate. Jasmine used to have a bad habit of 'nipping.' This was not in any way out of aggression but rather excitement and her herding instinct. She has now overcome this while in the care of her foster mom! Jasmine is fully crate trained, but still working on house training. Who I am seeking: An experienced dog owner, preferably with this particular breed. Someone who is home more than they're not. Age: est birth date 12/2013 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! Brussels Griffon Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Date into Rescue: 04/27/2015 Reason for being in rescue: We rescued Whiskers from our local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Weight: Est 8 lbs Height: Est 11' Adoption Fee: $125 What's my story? It's quite a story. On 4/19/2013 a cute little dog was taken to the local shelter after being found by police. No microchip was found and no owner came forward so the people at the shelter started looking for a home .On 5/28/2013 they found that home with a lady named Elizabeth. It could have happened anywhere in the Carolina's, right? Sure it could - but Whiskers was found running at large - in Oregon. That's a far ... (Read More)piece from South Carolina. Two years later, our Whiskers is once again picked up running at large. This time, a scan of his little body found a microchip implanted by the Oregon shelter he was adopted from. The chip was registered but attempts to contact the owner have gone unanswered. The phone # on record rings fast busy and the email's are ignored. After working with our new partner in Oregon on this, we've all agreed that it's best to find Whiskers a good home right here. What is my personality like? Whiskers has some behavioral issues, and a home without children is a must. He will show you his teeth, growl and snap over many things. He is a big resource guarder. He will guard his crate, his food, his toys, his treats, his friends and most importantly his human. Whiskers can be quite temperamental, possibly an indication of a bad past. He is in love with one of CPR's employees and does great with her. She can handle him, get him out of the crate, etc. Even with her, however, he will growl and guard treats. He also does not like his faced to be touch. On the positive side, he is a real cuddle bug. .He knows how to gives hugs and loves to show you. He will lay his little head on your shoulder to let you know he is there and that he loves you. Whiskers is very playful and loves to play with other dogs his size. Ideally, finding a trainer would be best. He seems to like women more than men and would thrive best in a home with someone that lives completely alone. Age: est birthday 04/19/2011 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC - Salem is currently our director's office cat and Chief Dog Tester Special Needs? Salem has thyroid issues and takes pills twice a day. Perfectly if she does not have to share My age: Est at as years old so estimated birthday 10/12/2002 Please note - we do not ship dogs. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-16-00310Stella (female)

Great Dane    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Stella! Breed: Great Dane Gender: Female Date into Rescue: 05/02/2014 Reason for being in rescue : Stella's previous owners surrendered her to the shelter after she developed tumors, likely from being bred too much. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - behavior Weight: Est 100 lbs Height: Est 30' at the shoulder Age: We think Stella was born around May of 2010 What can I say about a big spotty girl with lot and lots of attitude. Stella came to CPR because of her health but she's still with us because of her behavior. Stella can't be trusted with people she does not know. That's the key - ... (Read More)if Stella knows you and you're a firm and experienced handler, she's your best friend. If not, watch out. Stella has many good qualities and is a fun dog to be around if she has accepted you. She is stunningly good looking, a large girl with a large heart for those she loves and trusts. Stella loves toys and she can be found collecting so she can keep them tidy and neat. She's a hoarder but not really for any caregiver can walk in at any time and help themselves to her toy collection and she's happy to share. Leave it laying on the kennel floor and she'll fetch it and put it back where it belongs, in her run. She's a very neat girl. Stella loves big, fluffy beds but she also has been known to get so excited she eats the darn thing. We go through beds with her. Right now, Stella is sleeping on a big Kuranda bed with a fluffy comforter recycled from Goodwill. That seems to be working for her. Stella loves to play with other dogs and she'll romp and play just like a standard poodle and she can run and jump, wrestle and roll with the best of them. Stella has never met a dog she didn't like and she especially seems to like poodles and doodles. It's people that drive her a bit crazy and we don't know why. We've had her checked from top to toe and no physical issues. She eats grain free food to keep her skin fresh and healthy but other than that, she is as healthy now as she can possibly be. Eye sight was suspected but it's just fine. So is her hearing. But there is something about certain people that sets her off and when that happens, Stella uses her teeth. We've only seen one incident of aggression out of Stella here that was short and did not result in any damage. All the caregivers love her. We placed her once and she came back with a history of biting and biting hard. When that happens we stop, we observe and we try to figure out what happened for there is always a trigger, you just need to figure out what it is. So far it seems to be somewhat resource guarding. For the rest, I don't know. Stella is adoptable to the person with a ton of experience and a firm grasp of doggie discipline. They must understand that if they give this girl direction and focus, she will give them back a devotion that will be unlike any they have ever seen. If not - then trouble will happen. If interested in adopting Stella, you must have a fenced in yard prefer 6' privacy and one other large dog. No children under 18 years old. No cats. (Less)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

All about me! Can't have a dog of your own? Have a soft spot for old, sick or hard to place dogs? It only takes a $20 a month donation for me to be your virtual dog! I need at least 10 virtual adopters (sponsors) ... (Read More)to help cover my monthly costs. If I have medical challenges I need even more! The caregivers at Carolina Poodle Rescue will do the rest. Just think, without ever having to leave your home, you can have your very own online dog that will send you update emails, make Facebook posts, and be eternally grateful for your support! Go to the donate link at the top of the page for instructions as to how to donate. I love LOVE MY Virtual Adopter! Anne R Update 08/29/2016: Halibut is a very special boy. He doesn't let his seizures stop him from doing whatever he wants to do! I believe he has calmed down, matured and approved tremendously, but he still has his silly times. Halibut reminds me a lot of a surfer dude with his laid back, easy going attitude. His favorite things to do is eat and be lazy ! Did I mention he loves to eat?! He also loves to roam the fields all day and watches for cars traveling down the road so he can chase them. Although he is a lazy boy, sometimes he can be a bit stubborn about what he wants and when he wants it. He is a big baby and still expects to be spoiled! Update 04/2015: Halibut has his own run now! He and Annabelle call the run their honeymoon suite. Getting a BFF has helped the big fish a lot - but new meds have also made an amazing difference. They are expensive as they cost about $100 per month but what a difference they make. On the full moon, Halibut still has a very minor seizure or two but nothing like he had in the past. The new meds, Keppra extended release, make all the difference. Halibut has also developed a real passion for running and now that his seizures are so much better controlled, he has access to one of our 2 acre play yards. He romps and plays, chases balls, chases Annabelle and in general has a great time. But he still bites butts. Silly boy. Update 03/2015: Halibut has a girlfriend . Her name is Annabelle. He's a big ole baby and always wants his way. If he doesn't get it he will boss you until he does. This boy had really bad seizures but thankfully hasn't had one in a while. Halibut is doing better for now with his seizures. He loves to eat and when the weather is bad and he can't stay outside he gets into everything that isn't tied down. This boy is like Dennis the Menace; into everything. Update: 06/21/14 Halibut has had several Gran Mal seizures and has been treated at the vet. He is now on a new drug called zonisamide. It is $200 per month. Ouch!!! Halibut came to us after he was turned in at a VA shelter by his owners. They said he was 'too much dog' for them. We have so far seen that he is ALOT of dog. At 10 months old and already over 50 lbs, his high energy level is a lot to handle. He in fact has so much energy that poor Catfish Jackson doesn't know what to do with it and can become play aggressive. He loves attention, and LOVES to play. Halibut is going to need consistent obedience training, even though he already knows sit, shake, paw. But when he is in his over excited mood, he does not listen to those cues. He loves to chase tennis balls and bring them to you, just to have you throw another one. He would do best with an active, experienced owner. He will need a firm handler and owner that can keep Halibut focused and happy. His ideal home would be learning agility, a lot of hiking, jogging, swimming, and so forth. He is going to be a BIG boy. His play aggression is part of he wants to play so bad with other dogs, but when the other dog does not want to play or has had enough of him, and he is not done, he becomes aggressive in playing. In this, he will need to be an only dog in his adoptive home. He is really a sweet boy, he just needs to learn how to control his energy and frustration, and the right experienced home can help him. He will also need a home with no children. He is too high strung and strong, and he loves to use his mouth. Cats are also not a good idea. A single person or a couple who are very active and want to continue training through Halibut's life would be perfect for him. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-04-00036Bean (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Bean! Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Gender: Male Adoption Fee: $200 Date into Rescue: 3-27-2015 Reason for being in rescue: Columbia Shelter - found running on the streets Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Very lightly positive for heartworms, need only dog home Weight: 50 lbs Height: Est est 22' What is my personality like? Bean is an exemplary representation of his breed. He is intelligent, spunky, loyal, handsome and just all around a sweet soul. Beans only flaw is that he does not fare well with other animals, he likes all of the attention for himself! He initially came in one year ago ... (Read More)(March 2015) as a bonded pair with a male standard poodle. They were best friends and Bean did GREAT with him. Unfortunately we had to split them up because no one wanted them both - we felt it wasn't fair to make them live at the farm forever, when a forever home could be right around the corner. Bean most definitely has the potential to go through training to work on his skills with other animals. He was not neutered upon his arrival and has calmed down a lot since we neutered him. He knows basic obedience, walks well on a leash and is crate trained. He is a big baby who wants to lay in your lap, play with toys and give you all of his heart. Bean needs a fenced in yard and or a hiking partner! He is strong, active and loves being out and about with his person. He had a history of fence climbing, however we have never seen him do this in his time at the farm. We haven't seen him with children, however his people skills are top notch as he loves everyone that he meets. He welcomes all humans with an open heart, a big smile and a wagging tail. He is an absolute love bug. Who I am seeking: Experienced, active owner. Age: est birthday 03/31/2012 Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them!
