Dannie has only three legs and he is heartworm positive. Weight: 7 pounds Height: about 6' at the shoulder..long and low Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? no Dannie came to us from a local shelter, and upon arrival we noticed that his back right leg was broken. Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of information about him and we don't know how long his leg had been broken. We took Dannie to the vet and scheduled surgery to have his leg pinned. During the surgery the vet ... (Read More)realized that the bone had been broken for far too long and the bone was too brittle to repair. The vet took the next best course of action and had to amputate Dannie's leg. Dannie is currently in foster care while he heals and recovers from his surgery. Despite his injuries, Dannie has no trouble walking and getting around. He has proven to be quite resourceful, and he uses the wall and his upper body strength to wedge himself up onto the couch. His leg isn't the only part of Dannie's health that was neglected. Dannie also has heartworms. Since he is very tiny, we've chosen the slow kill method of treatment. Dannie will be adopted with with one year's of Triheart heartworm prevention at his adoption. Dannie bonds with one person and prefers females over males. He loves spending time with his person and wants to be around them. Dannie is very affectionate. He likes to climb up in your lap and give kisses. Dannie likes to go exploring outside and we are working on his potty training. Dannie is sweet to everyone he meets and is looking for a low key quiet home. Dannie would prefer an adult only home and he would love for his person to be home for most of the day. He would be a great companion for someone that is retired and looking for a cuddle buddy. Much preferred but to the right home will consider no fence home What kind of home would be best for me? Mia is an affectionate, happy dog who epitomizes ... (Read More)the absolute best of the bull mastiff breed. She was originally owner release / can't care for and one of our caregivers took her home for several months while we worked to resolve her cherry eye .She loved Mia but realized that she is far too big and needs much more attention than she could give so tearfully asked us to find Mia a home. What is my personality like? Bouncy, sweet, loves to play. Hasn't met a squeeky toy she did not like. She can be a bit rough on toys, too. She has no one here that is really her size or energy level to play with but her limited interaction has been okay. Medical note: Mia has cherry eye (a tear duct that protrudes) in both eyes. In September, our vet attempted reduction by tucking but the tucking did not stay in. Because removing cherry eye often creates dry eye later in life, we've opted not to do additional surgery at this time. How I act when I first meet new people: Sweetheart - she loves people. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Rescue Me ID: 16-09-07-00421Oscar (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 2/28/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes, see description Weight: Est 43lb Height: Est 17' at the shoulder What is my personality like? Strong willed, goofy, intelligent, energetic Who I am seeking: Oscar needs someone who is very experienced with head-strong dogs. He must have a strong 'pack leader,' otherwise he will run over you. He needs an adult only home. Oscar can be a very, very sweet dog. He likes to show affection and to get attention - when he wants it. He has bitten and broken the skin on one occasion since his time here with us. What we have ... (Read More)found is that he does best with people that he knows and trust, versus complete strangers. Oscar needs a strong leader who can teach him some manners and work with him. He loves to play and run out in the field. Oscar has a lot of energy and needs someone who is able to exercise him. He shows signs of resource guarding - he will act ugly in his crate sometimes and over treats. We definitely think his behavior could be modified with some training. At this time we believe he would thrive best in a home where he is the only pet. He has not made many canine friends in his time here - mainly due to his dominant personality. With some time and patience, Oscar could be an excellent dog. He needs an adult only home. Oscar was heartworm positive when we got him. He has finished full treatment and is ready for a home. Update 3/31/2016 Oscar needs lots of patience for the right home. He does not like new people but once he warms up to you he's as sweet as can be! He loves to run and give kisses. He will jump fences..so he definaltey could use some training. If anyone is interested in this goofy boy they should come spend one on one time at the farm with him until Oscar is comfortable with the new person. Age: We are estimating him at 5 but honestly the longer he's with us the younger he acts. Please understand that these are rescued dogs, and sometimes their ages are only a guess. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: VERY weary about new people. He will bark and growl in his run until he gets to know you. Please note - we do not ship dogs. What kind of home would be best for me? Toby would love to find a home out in the country or on a farm with an adopter that will take him hunting, fishing or hiking! Toby is an exemplary representation of his breed in that his nose is his guide and not even a six foot fence is going to stand in his way! Toby is a very well ... (Read More)behaved dog that gets along well with everyone he meets both human and canine! What is my personality like? Toby is a laid back, sweet, even tempered, all around great guy. He has a very mellow and gentle personality. Unfortunately because he is an fence jumper and escape artist we have to leash walk Toby when outside, but now he is house trained and for the most part walks great on a leash! He does pull on a leash sometimes when he gets really excited and when he is in a new place. A few of our caregivers took Toby to a Tails and Trails event, which is a trail walk where volunteers walk some of our dogs on a two mile hike, and Toby had a blast! He loves to go out on walks to explore and smell new scents. He would do exceedingly well with someone who loves to hike and be outside. Toby would do great with children considering his calm, gentle nature. He is pretty independent.. he doesn't need anyone to baby talk him or have affection. Although he does love an occasional back scratch, and to be petted! How I act when I first meet new people: Toby is friendly to all he meets. House trained? Wally is looking for a home with a dog savvy adopter that will be a strong pack leader. Wally is the type of dog that you have to show him you are in charge and that you aren't going to put up with any shenanigans. Once you have earned his respect as pack leader he is the most loyal and lovable companion you could ask for. ... (Read More)He is bonded to one of our caregivers and she can do anything she wants with him. Wally prefers to have all the love and attention all to himself and would do best in a home as the only dog. What is my personality like? In the beginning, Wally was a little difficult and headstrong, but now he that he is comfortable and used to the routine he is much more agreeable and obedient. Wally is very eager to please and responds well to verbal correction. He already knows how to sit and is learning how to wait at thresholds (doors, gates, etc). He knows the wait command but if you don't make him do it he will try to sneak on in the door. Wally doesn't like being outside and prefers to just go out to use the potty and come right back in. He would make a great lap dog as he loves to cuddle and spend time with his person. Wally earned the nickname Wally Walrus because he resembles a walrus and always rolls over for a belly rub. Sophie was one of many dogs seized from a hoarder in Abbeville, SC. Many of the dogs were terrified and under socialized with humans and have taken a long time to warm up to our caregivers. Sophie has to yet come around and be fully comfortable with human touch. Sophie will need a quiet low key home with an experienced patient adopter that understands that it will take ... (Read More)time for her to warm up and be comfortable. What is my personality like? Sophie is an active girl that loves to go outside and play with her many friends. She would probably do best in a home with another chihuahua or small dog to learn from and help build her confidence. Sophie is a very fearful dog and almost feral dog. Sophie needs someone that understands that it is going to take time and work for her to become socialized around people. Sophie needs someone with a lot of patience, a gentle touch, and someone that is up for the challenge. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-01-00336Alfie (male)

Chinese Crested Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 10/14/15 Reason for being in rescue: seizure due to his condition Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Alfie has food allergies. He can only eat rabbit kibble. Weight: est 18 lbs Height: est 12' at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $200.00 Fence needed Č'Ř‹No but he would enjoy a fenced in yard or some place to go play off leash a couple of times a week What kind of home would be best for me? Alfie came to CPR with hardly any hair and sarcoptic mange. After months of treatment, he was still having issues with his skin so off to vet he went. The vet's office staff decided they liked having ... (Read More)Alfie around so much that they are fostering him until he gets adopted. On top of the mange, Alfie also has food allergies, and is now only able to eat rabbit based kibble. We are unsure of Alfie's true breeds. The breeds we listed are our best guess based on his looks and behavior. Alfie has grown a lot of his hair back, but we don't know if he is partly Chinese crested or if his skin is just so badly damaged that his hair just won't grow back in certain spots. Alfie has shown some resource guarding and would thrive best with an experienced patient adopter that can work with him on this issue. He guards his toys, bed, and his home. He would do best in a home with few visitors and no children. What is my personality like? Alfie is one smart boy! He knows how to sit and twirl, and he is a fairly quick study, especially when treats are involved. Alfie absolutely loves to play with toys, but he has shown some resource guarding with his toys so he needs to have some rules and structure when it comes to playtime. Alfie is determined, intelligent, independent, and loving. How I act when I first meet new people: Alfie is finicky with new people. He likes some new people and others he does not like. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-06-00719Opie - HW+ (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 12/31/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Opie tested positive for heartworms. He has just completed his heartworm treatment using the fast kill method which consists of three immiticide injections and four to six weeks of crate rest. Opie will be retested for heartworms six months after completion of treatment. Opie will need to be on a monthly ivermectin based heartworm preventative for the rest of his life. We encourage all potential adopters to research heartworms and treatment protocols to gain a better understanding of heartworms and ... (Read More)why a monthly preventative is so important! Weight: est 45 lbs Height: est 22' Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed: no, but he would love one! Opie is a goofy hound mix with a loving and playful disposition. He loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to go outside and play with his many canine companions. Opie and his other hound friends love to engage in rough play and Opie likes to growl a lot when he plays, but it is all in good fun! Opie knows how to sit, and is also crate trained and runs right in his crate. Opie loves people and always greets them cheerfully. Opie came to CPR severely underweight, dehydrated, and a victim of neglect and abuse. We put him on a strict diet to gain weight and prevent refeeding syndrome and slowly nursed Opie back to a healthy weight. Despite his condition, Opie was (and still is), very loving and upbeat, wanting to play with his tennis ball while out on potty breaks. Opie does resource guard his food, but considering his past of not knowing when his next meal would come it's not surprising that he would be protective of his food. The perfect home for Opie would be an experienced adopter that will continue to work and train with him through his resource guarding issues. Opie would love an active owner to go for daily walks, hikes or jogs. He would do well in a home with another large dog to play with or as an only dog! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture, and not to discriminate against older dogs. You never know which dog will steal your heart when you meet them! How I act when I first meet new people: Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.     Date into Rescue: 02/25/2016 Reason for being in rescue: stray from local shelter Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Yes, Winter is currently on a two week trial of medication for arthritis in her back. She is scheduled to see the vet for a recheck on 3/29/16 and will update any new information. Weight: Height: Adoption Fee: $125 Fence needed? no What kind of home would be best for me? Winter would love to find a permanent home with a nice quiet family where she can live out the rest of her life peacefully and comfortably. What is my personality like? Winter marches to the beat of her own drum, and she is a ... (Read More)quirky independent dog. She is much more of a 'lone wolf' than a member of the pack. She is surprisingly active for her age and likes to walk freely around the kennel rather than sleep the day away in a crate. She also enjoys sitting outside in the fresh air on nice sunny days. Winter gets along well with other dogs but prefers the company of older mature dogs. She can get a little ornery with overly energetic pups, and growls at them if they bump into her or get too close to her back. Due to Winter's back issues, she is more sensitive to the touch and appreciates gentler handling and petting. How I act when I first meet new people: aloof; slightly curious House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
